Devlog #4: Future plans (since what I've added in the past 2-3 updates aren't really exiting to explain how I did them. I mostly just rewrote existing code and fixed stuff.)

Since my last devlog, a few features have been added, including a simple resource collection, and crafting system. Right now the game is in a state where features seem to come and then go. The reason is that massive overhauls to the game’s code have been more important in my eyes than features that don’t yet have a real use. For example, the refining station and recharging station was removed when I overhauled the starter ship a week ago. They will be re-added, but hopefully fit in more, and not just look tacked-on.

The new ship overhaul

You will notice that instead of starting the game with a single ship, you now have 2 ships. A bigger ship, and a smaller one. The story is going to start you with something like this, and want to get feedback on the implementation. A few more issues are yet to be solved, like when you save the game, the small ship disappears. I literally only just remembered I still haven’t done that yet. These are small things though, and will take me a couple of hours to fix at most.

Future plans

I plan to have it so the smaller ship is for landing on planets and space stations, as well as for combat further away from the main ship. The main ship will be of story critical importance. It is damaged, but you know it must be important, so decide you cannot replace it. However you still don’t remember exactly why. Or anything else. (Because that is part of the story, which is yet to be added to the game itself.)

As you progress through the game, you will slowly repair the ship to its former glory, as you slowly regain your memories.

In the next few updates I plan to add the basic tech and upgrading tree, as well as a simple base building system, which will include machines to help you automate the creation of certain common resources, and help reduce the boring repetitive grind.

Also while messing with the game’s lighting, I found this: A dark hallway lit by only a flashlight While this particular example was me just messing wih the lighting, trying to get it to look good, maybe something like this could be added to the game in the future. (Spoiler, it most likely will.)
